According to a recent article on CBC News, the Canadian gaming industry has been taking somewhat of a financial hit as of late.
The Canadian Gaming Association asserts that Canadians spend about $1 billion per year gambling online, but since only provincial governments are allowed to offer gaming services online (lottery), the vast majority of that betting action is being placed with operators outside of Canada.
Paul Burns, a spokesman for the association, says that, given the USA's failure to effectively prohibit online gaming, regulation is the only way forward for Canada. He believes that regulated online gaming will be a reality in Canada within the next couple of years.
